A call from God
Years ago when I was working for a marketing agency in the UK we were told by Google that to get a dedicated account manager to support us with the strategy with a client’s budget we needed to be spending thousands of pounds a month. I don’t remember the exact figure, but the business model touched a nerve; serve thousands of customers regularly with as much automation as possible, delighting and surprising them with almost every interaction and never have to have a human being talk to them. There’s something in this world wide web internet thing…
At the cookandkitchen pulse meeting last night (our fortnightly check-in), Jen (Director of Getting Us Found) relayed to the group that she’d received a phone call from Google – WOW I thought we must be asking some interesting questions. I can’t wait for God to call us back with the answers
It’s all about the numbers and I am obsessed with Google analytics; this week our bounce rate is down
unique traffic is up
but page views are down
and conversion is down
. In short there are plenty of people popping their head round the door but not enough of them are taking a long enough look. It’s all hands on deck this weekend to ensure that our store is as easy to use and beautifully presented as possible.
I’m pleased about some numbers. In BRW this morning its reported that Australia’s online retail trade account for only 3% of the total retail spend ($300 billion). In the US online retail represents 10% of all retail transactions
We only want a very small piece of the $5.5 billion dollars that will account for Australia’s online spend over the next few years.
The other great news for cookandkitchen is that the organics market is set to grow from 1% of retail consumption to 5% by 2020. This year the market will grow by 13% to around $500m. Again we only want a small slice of the pie and we’ve got over 160 organic products in-store.
Answer my prayers please Google
